I can advise you how to set up and design Moodle courses for blended or fully online courses. I have been using Moodle for ten years, and in that time I have set up numerous Moodles and am now the administrator of four production Moodle systems. Currently, I use Moodle in blended learning settings, and also administer four fully online Moodle courses. I can show you how to use and integrate most of the standard activity and resource modules into your teaching. Furthermore, I can explain to you how to use various other course functions and features such as Groups and Groupings, Conditional Activities, the Gradebook and embedding multimedia. As a Moodle administrator, I can also give you some tips about how to run a Moodle system

Moodle is used at our university to manage a required freshmen Oral English program that is almost entirely taught by part-time teachers. From April 2011, all students and part-time teachers in both the 4-year and 2-year departments at our campus campus were requested to enroll in the blended-learning Moodle courses created by this author and a student assistant. Grouped by department and day of the week, the Moodle courses consisted of two-levels, Upper and Regular, decided by placement test. Students were asked to do most of their preparation and homework online in the form of Moodle quizzes, counting for 20% of their grade for each semester course. For each unit, vocabulary, listening and grammar questions of various formats such as fill-in, multiple choice, and matching questions were assigned with deadlines. The presenter will report on student participation (over 500) and scores attained in 2011-2012, and what organizational changes were made in 2012. In particular, orienting numerous part-time teachers and students not familiar with Moodle proved to be a major hurdle. Some ideas and procedures for smooth introduction of Moodle courses will be discussed.

This showcase will provide an overview of a summer TOEIC course offered during August and early September of 2012. Five English teachers (2 native Japanese speakers and 3 native English speakers) taught a new English course focusing on improving TOEIC scores. The course consisted of 3 full days of class, a 27 day self-study period, and 2 more days of class which included TOEIC IP. Teachers used both test-focused and task-based methodologies. A Moodle CMS acted as a hub for blended learning. Links to websites and videos, forums, and quizzes supported course activities and promoted communication between course participants and teachers. Student goals, positive TOEIC results, and positive results from ALC NetAcademy2 tests will be discussed.

This LT presentation targets beginning Moodle users for language teaching and shows how some of the basic Moodle activity tools can be used to make a language class more student-centered. For example, students identify problems that they must solve during the class; or students create rubrics that they use to assess their own products. Despite their limited English proficiency and relatively low interests in language learning, first-year college students majoring in systems & information sciences find motivation when working on tasks where they identify their own problems and goals.

Moodle has become popular around the world but there are still many inefficiencies surrounding the ways it is being used. Those who use Moodle and develop Moodle are not only educators but designers and engineers, and as such we are concerned with increasing learning outcomes while reducing the effort being spent to achieve them.
Martin will talk about how Moodle HQ is focussing on three main areas of development to achieve this:
1) Moodle as a platform, with better systems for developing, distributing and maintaining plugins across installations.
2) Moodle community, including a wide range of tools for sharing ideas and content between users, both in teacher, administration and particularly research.
3) Moodle core improvements to make it a more powerful tool for research, including analytics and usability improvements as well as performance improvements. This is especially intended to improve learning research which in turn will guide future development of core and plugins.
In particular our research focus enables us to go "back to the classroom" to study what works and what doesn't, so that we can continue towards our goal of making computers become strong partners for our teachers and learners.

ムードルは世界で高い人気を博していますが、未だにその使用法に関して非効率な点が見受けられます。ムードルの使用者や開発者は教育者だけでなく、デザイナーやエンジニアも居ます。そこで我々は如何にして無駄な労力を削減しつつ学習アウトプットを高めることができるか、という問題に取り組んでいます。
マーティンは上記目標を達成するためにムードル本部が注力している三つの主要開発テーマについてお話しいたします。
1) 開発や配布やプラグインの維持管理などについてバージョンを超えてより良いシステムとなるような、プラットフォームとしてのムードル
2) 教育、管理、特に研究に従事するユーザ間でアイディアやコンテンツを交換し合えるような広範囲なツールを含む、ムードルコミュニティー
3) 解析ツールや使用感の向上、パフォーマンスの向上などを含みムードルが研究活動にとってより強力なツールになるためのムードルコアの改善。これは特に学習研究活動の改善を目指すもので、その結果がまた将来的なコアプログラムやプラグインの開発を導くものになるのです。
そういうわけで、我々が研究活動に焦点を当てたということは、「教室に戻って」何がうまく行って、何がうまく行かないのかを検証する機会を作るということになり、学習者にとっても教師にとってもコンピュータが強力なパートナーとなり続けるようにするという我々のゴールに沿ったものです。

医学部の学生に対する医療倫理の教育では、これまでワールドカフェ等を利用したディスカッションを授業で行った後、個人のまとめとしてレポートを提出させるなどの課題を課していた。しかし、従来の形式ではレポートは教員のみしか読むことができず、学生の省察を促すには不十分であった。本発表ではこの課題を改善するため、医療倫理教育において、moodleを利用してレポート提出および相互閲覧・コメント付けを実施できる環境を設定して実践したので報告する。
