Congratulations on our first MoodleMoot in Nagasaki, Japan. Thank you to all the professors, staff and students who hosted us at Nagasaki International University. Martin Dougiamasは、Moodle HQのリードデベロッパー/CEOです。今夜、日本時間の午後10時から11時まで、彼はMoodle Users Association主催の「Ask Martin Anything」というセッションを行います。これは、年に1回くらいの頻度で行われています。日本ムードル協会はMUAのゴールドメンバーで、毎年10,000AUDの寄付でムードル開発をサポートしています。その特典として、MAJはこのようなMUAのイベントに10名のメンバーが参加できるようになっています。

Martin Dougiamas is the Lead Developer/CEO of Moodle HQ. Tonight from 10-11pm Japan time, he is giving a session called "Ask Martin Anything" sponsored by the Moodle Users Association. This happens about once a year. The Moodle Association of Japan is a Gold Member of MUA and supports Moodle development with a donation of $10,000AUD each year. As a benefit, MAJ is allowed ten members to join MUA events like this.

Take a look at the questions below that have been gathered by Moodle users all over the world. I will be attending and try to take notes on what Martin says. However, I hope other members will join because we have three open tickets for anyone in MAJ to join this event.   • Moodle App

    • What is the Roadmap for the App? (see below)

    • What about your mentioned “mobile first” approach for Moodle development? How is it with Moodle Workplace?

    • There are several copycats mostly from East asia  for Moodle App services and development. Are you aware of that and do you take any measures against it (because we are fearing negative influence for the brand). 

    • Could there be a branded App lite (with only the data security options in)?

  • Integration of premium partners?

    • With BigBlueButton and Brickfield there seems to be a new way of premium integrators: Basic features free and in core, additional features with subscription. Is this “the new way”? 

MUA relation

  • What is your commitment for MUA to grow?

  • Where and how do you see the MUA in 5 years?

Organisational

  • Could you provide an organisational chart of Moodle HQ?

  • Peer review and integration queues are still a topic (100+ items are waiting). Are there any plans for streamlining this in HQ

  • What is your recent strategy on conferences and/or Moodle academy?

    • In which case should we use h5p and when should we use quiz? 

      • Are there benefits to one over the other

    • There is a quite new table available (https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Roadmap) but this table is empty for Moodle.net and Workplace, Moodle App column is not very descriptive. Do you plan to use this table more intensively in the future?

  • Do you envision branching the MEC out less platform specific into a more broad approach, following the DigCompEdu. 

  • Moodle is investing a lot for company learning (Workspace) and some effort for HiEd and digital for the underserved countries. What about school up to K12. Are they lost in between? Are there in the focus group? Do you think it is the duty of the community to fill that gap? Initiatives like LearnR (https://moodle.org/plugins/theme_learnr) are around, but you support these beyond by good words?

  • Obviously HQ stopped the Analytics project. What are the future plan on advanced analytics (like a “intelliboard lite”)

I think Doug's suggestion is the way most teachers or schools get started with Moodle. It is bottom up innovation happening when one teacher decides to use Moodle for a class in their school. Moodle Cloud is the best first choice because it is free and allows up to 50 students. Then that teacher needs a local mentor to guide the setup and answer questions. Of course this forum is possible, but help from a colleague is more immediate and friendly. In Hokkaido, we have the MAJ Hokkaido Chapter group led by Bob Gettings to support anyone here. Perhaps you could help other schools, other teachers you know in Hokkaido and be a mentor to them. Then when that teacher outgrows Moodle Cloud (to get a greater variety of plugins) or the whole school decides to use it, we can help them get a server and set up their own cloud.  [Announcement:  Hokkaido Summer Moodle Workshop on August 31-September 1]
