Yes, a demo site targeted for our specific audience. Why consider using Moodle, what we can do in Moodle, Moodle success stories (include some of our best courseware?) how to get started etc. Who to contact (your local Moodle Mentor?) With documents and videos and online links in Japanese so it is all very user-friendly.

A YouTube video could be used for mass dissemination when we are ready for that, a video introducing a cool idea with Moodle's main features and benefits. Any YouTubers here?
The mentor scheme sounds excellent. We could volunteer to help schools in our own areas to:
1) get access to this information we are creating
2) get started using Moodle

We could have mentors in many areas in Japan. If you are in xx place, contact yy person. We would need many Moodle Mentors for this.

Problem: I am a user, not a tech person. There may be others like me. Maybe we need a list of who can do what.

Great! Good ideas. I hope others will also join if they are interested in this.

Title of Project: Moodle Online Courses: start date April 2020

I think we have to aim for April as that is when classes start. Do you agree?

Goal: Introduce Moodle to admin, teachers, professors, any concerned parties who will see Moodle as a viable alternative to face-to-face classes, especially useful at a time of decreased mobility. Start small but overall goal is to get info to all in Japan who need it.

Plan: 1. Gather interested Moodlers to make a task force. Decide what to do and how to do it. Some suggestions have already been made here.

2. Decide who will do what.

3. Make an online space for those targeted admin/teachers etc. to see Moodle and read about it. Text (and videos, if possible) in Japanese would be very useful. How do we get MoodleCloud space?

4. Get the information out to a few people who can give us feedback. We work more on the whole set up and improve it, then try to promote it to many more people.

Question: Where can we work together on this? In our MAJ space here? Should we create a dedicated space to work on this?

Please comment and add to the plan above, these are just initial ideas. With many people working on this, we can make a great plan!

Thank you to those who are willing to work on this. It seems like now is the time to act.

A Japan Times article from yesterday titled "Coronavirus prompts Japan to reconsider long-hours office culture" says that many companies are now trying to implement work-from-home/remote work for their employees. Universities may be willing to try too, especially those of us in locations who are being hard hit by the virus, as we are in Hokkaido. I worry about how many parents will allow their 18-year-old sons and daughters to come to Hokkaido in April.

There may be some universities, high schools etc. who would be willing to try Moodle and have classes remotely, but we would need to present Moodle and the ideas of online classes somehow. I guess a presentation would be best, but a website with information in Japanese and English and/or a pdf would also be helpful. I will talk with colleagues at my uni and see what they think. What do you think?

Should we try to put something together with the goal of helping Japanese universities and schools to learn more about Moodle and consider using it in April? I'm willing to help with this. How did the Moot organizers get organized? Shall we self-organize a group to work on this? Anyone interested?

I agree with Doug that this is a great idea, and thank you very much for thinking of it. We shall have to create a new Moodle award for "creation of an international online conference in 3 days"!

Just to clarify, all presenters should prepare to make an online presentation at the same time as originally scheduled, is that right? I will get straight to work on it...

A big "Thank you!!" to all of you for the time and effort you are devoting to this conference. I am studying motivation, maybe I should do a case study of this...

Best wishes,

Jennifer

P.S. - Anything we can do to help?
