Presentation title: Create Ordering-Type Moodle Questions with Filemaker Pro Presentation type: Presentation (40 mins) プレゼンテーション(40分) Presentation language: English 英語 Presentation keywords: moodle plugin installation, ordering-type question, quiz module Presentation abstract: As an alternative to more sophisticated Moodle-based Graded Reader applications such as XRead and MReader, the presenter has created a Filemaker Pro stand-alone application the works on all IOS devices using the Filemaker Pro Go app. This IOS app allows teachers to take inventory of their books, keeps track of which books have been checked-out using the built-in barcode reading functionality and formats a list of story events into a GIFT formatted Ordering-Type Moodle Questions. At the end of the presentation, participants will be given a link to the original application and the stand-alone app version which does not require the licensed Filemaker Pro Advanced application. The presenter will begin with an overview of the application followed by instructions on how to set up the Ordering-Type Moodle question. Finally, the presenter will discuss the method of creating the story events for the 35 books in his library. |

Summarizing a story is an important skill for students to understand and remember. Using ordering-type question quizzes in Moodle helps the teacher track whether students are reading their books. To help students improve their skills of reading and summarizing, the presenter will show how he created and incorporated GIFT-formatted ordering question quizzes for each book in his graded reader library. Although there are more sophisticated Moodle-based Graded Reader applications such as XRead and MReader, the presenter wanted the students to create the ordering-type question quizzes to help students improve their summarizing skills. However, this approach presents several challenges. One such challenge is the time it takes to check and manage all the summaries. A second challenge is creating and uploading all the GIFT-formatted quizzes to Moodle. By using Google Docs and FileMaker Pro, the presenter will show how these issues were solved. At the end of the presentation, participants will be given a link to all the student handouts and the FileMaker Pro IOS app that automatically creates the GIFT-formatted ordering type question quizzes. |

Feedback Other than the Moodle Ordering Question type, it is not clear to me how the topic relates to Moodle. Although this presentation is perhaps better suited to a more general CALL conference, I think there will be a high level of interest from MOOT delegates. |
