発表の題名: Discovering Christmas Through a Moodle Advent Calendar
発表の種類: Presentation (20 mins) プレゼンテーション(20分)
発表の言語: English 英語
発表のキーワード: extra-curricular, Christmas, Advent
Normally, educators use Moodle as a platform for hosting courses. In December, 2021 the Advent Calendar was launched at the University of Nagasaki as an extra-curricular learning resource made available to all students, faculty, and staff. During the month of December, users can foster their English skills while interactively learning about Christmas traditions around the world. Participants could drop in daily or less frequently. In this presentation, we will share our experience launching and running this “course” during the two most recent periods of Advent. We will show examples of the types of activities and resources used, as well as the response from the participants. While the inaugural Advent Calendar received some positive feedback, there seemed to be greater potential in terms of participation and interaction with this “course.” The hope, at time of writing, was to build on the foundation of the 2021 edition for a more successful 2022 edition of the calendar.

Feedback It might be a good idea to include some information in your abstract about which modules you used to create the advent calendar and put those in the keywords. Some Moot attendees are looking for ways to use different modules, so having that information in your abstract can help them decide which presentation to attend.

Feedback I'm not so sure what exactly an "Advent Calendar" is, so this may have somewhat limited relevance to people in non-Christian environments? Anyway, giving it the benefit of the doubt, it sounds like an intriguing way to introduce a cultural experience to students. Just, please be sure to explain what you mean by "Advent Calendar" (I will Google it, but other attendees may be as clueless as I currently am. . . ).
