The Moodle Association of Japan conducts an annual survey of members and Moodle-using universities in Japan.  Officers, members, staff and educators using Moodle are invited to submit their requests for Moodle LMS development needs. Please go to this survey to help MAJ know your problems and priorities. These priorities will help the MAJ decide how to put a portion of your membership funds to make Moodle better--we donate about one million yen of your membership funds each year. This survey will take about two minutes of time to answer the four questions at the beginning--the remaining questions you are not required to answer, but they will help us understand what educators and students in Japan need. MAJ will compile these ideas and promote the most needed ones. Finally, we welcome you to organize and join a MAJ project team to help get these voices heard. 
 
このMoodle LMS開発ニーズ調査は、2月23日(日)に開始され、MoodleMootカンファレンス期間中、正午12時まで実施されます。2月28日(金) 中間結果は、同日午後5時からの日本ムードル協会総会で報告されます。 その後、アンケートを再開し、4月31日まで最終提出を受け付けます。資金提供の優先順位に関する最終決定は、日本ムードル協会の規約により、おそらく2025年5-6月、遅くとも2025年8月までに開催される日本ムードル協会総会で行われます。 会員は、日本でMoodleを使用している同僚とリンクを共有することができます。それらの友人の意見は歓迎されますが、最終的な結果には登録メンバーの優先順位のみがカウントされます。
 
This Moodle LMS development needs survey is opening on Sunday, February 23 and will remain open through the MoodleMoot conference until 12 noon. Friday February 28th. The interim results will be reported at the Moodle Association of Japan General Meeting at 5:00pm that day.  Then the survey will re-open and final submissions accepted until April 31st. A final decision on funding priorities will be made at a MAJ General Meeting, probably in May-June 2025, but no later than August 2025, by rule of MAJ constitution.  Members may share the link with colleagues who are using Moodle in Japan. 2025年に向けて、あなたのMoodle開発優先課題を共有していただき、ありがとうございます。4月30日現在、14名の日本メンバーからご意見をいただいています。

MAJメンバーにとっての最優先事項を決定するには、まだ時間があります。この決定により、例年、Moodle LMSの改善資金として、約100万円のメンバー会費を提供してきました。今年、私たちはこの資金を、私たちが望む改善点に直接配分することができます。

To all Moodle Association of Japan Members,
 
Hoping you are having a good Golden Week. And we trust your Moodle classes are going well from this April.
 
Thank you for sharing your Moodle development priorities for 2025. We have received 14 Japan members' submissions as of April 30th. 

There is still time for you to voice your opinions and decide the highest priority for MAJ members. With this decision, in past years, we have given about one million yen of members' fees to fund improvements in the Moodle LMS. This year, we are allowed to allocate funds directly to the exact improvement we want these funds to go to. 

From advice of the Moodle Association of Japan officers, I have moved the survey to a Moodle Questionnaire Form on our MAJ website. I have never used this module before, and I must admit it is a superior tool for attractive and easy-to-understand surveys. It is ideal for internal surveys, as we do not need to collect email addresses. This survey should only take five minutes of your time.

日本ムードル協会会員の皆様へ、

2025年日本ムードル協会開発ニーズ調査は、5月17日現在、MAJ役員およびメンバーから15件の回答をいただきました。Asada、Saito、Kameda、Jenkins、Cotter、Fujimoto、Yoshiba、Obermeier、Udagawa、Kagoya、Muir、Hinkelman、White、Swenson、Lambacherの皆様、ご意見をお寄せいただきありがとうございました。アンケートの結果、最も緊急に必要な改善点を優先順位の高い順に示す： 

1.     最も緊急： クエスチョン・バンクの改善
2.    緊急： TinyMCのツールバー設定、ルーブリックの改善、Completion API、 
3.    緊急ではありません：  注釈のフィードバックファイル、重複アカウントのマージ、電子メール通知、課題の一括アップロード、提出情報の表示、代名詞フィールド

その結果、クエスチョンバンクの改善は、承認されたグローバルなMoodle LMSプロジェクトの中で、最優先事項となりました。

To all Moodle Association of Japan Members,

The 2025 Moodle Association of Japan Development Needs Survey has received 15 responses from MAJ officers and members as of May 17th. Thank you to Asada, Saito, Kameda, Jenkins, Cotter, Fujimoto, Yoshiba, Obermeier, Udagawa, Kagoya, Muir, Hinkelman, White, Swenson, Lambacher for sharing your opinions. The results of the survey show the most urgent improvements needed in order of priority: 

-    Most Urgent: Question Bank Improvements

 -    Urgent:  Toolbar Configuration for TinyMC, Rubric improvements, Completions API,

-    Less Urgent:  Feedback file for annotations, Merging duplicate accounts, Email notifications, Bulk upload of assignments, View submission information, Pronoun fields

The result is that Question Bank Improvements is the top priority among approved global Moodle LMS projects. 

A MAJ Officers Board Meeting (EBM) is being scheduled for Thursday, May 22nd to decide how much funding will be given to which priority. If you have not sent your priorities, there is still time to add your voice here in the 2025 Moodle Development Needs Survey. If you cannot that URL, but you or your school paid membership or conference fees, please contact Don Hinkelman <hinkelman@mac.com> and I will help you enter the survey.

In addition, for domestic R&D, MAJ members are building Moodle plugins for better learning experiences and to fit the Japanese education system. In 2025, we encourage these ambitious Moodlers to apply for Japan Education Ministry grants (kakenhi) as well as MAJ funding.  The above list shows the plugin development teams that officers and members are interested in.

These teams will be encouraged and supported to apply for Kakenhi grants or MAJ funding. Go to Question 8 in the Development Needs Survey to volunteer as an advisor, a tester, or lead developer in these teams.
