Best Moodle Innovation for 2025 -- Nominations

This is a new Moodle question type plugin which allows for easy creation of dictation and cloze questions. Novel features of the plugin include:

• being able to upload a sound file and choose how many times it can be played for dictation activities
• a simple interface using square brackets to indicate passage gaps
• choosing between a single underline to indicate each word gap, or providing an underscore for each letter in a word as hints for learners
• choosing whether to grade student answers with a binary score, or using Levenshtein distance, which gives partial credit depending on how close a user's spelling is to the correct answer
• centre or left alignment of gap text.
• allowing multiple correct gap answers to account for regional spelling variations
• exporting student answers as a CSV file for analysis
• feedback of % correct for each gap in a passage when Levenshtein distance grading is chosen, and an overall passage score calculated from the weighted average of gap answers.

The plugin works across PCs, Macs and mobile devices, and accepts full-width characters for Japanese users. It is useful for creating language assessments and language learning activities. This plugin was created with the support of a JSPS Kaken grant no: 21K13083.
