Hi Thom, (and R&D committee)
Thank you for making the google docs of each proposal! It is great you have some time now and I know you are eager to get things going—you have been really busy in July and I am happy August is a good time for you.. Now we can evaluate as an R&D committee first—using email and google docx and zoom.
Here is my email address for docx sharing: hinkelman@mac.com. I also have donhinkelman@gmail.com but I do not want to use that. Google is open to non-google email addresses.
Please keep the announcements internal to the R&D Committee as I have already begun a process to sharing with the board once we have deliberated. Please do not use public forum to ask Yagi sensei about amount of funds available. I have already asked her a simple question about what the current balance is. Right now she has no idea how to answer a question about what should be allocated, because it is complicated whether past years budget shall be forwarded. A public question puts her in an uncomfortable position and suggests she is not doing her job. First, let’s come up with an amount we wish to request for 2024.
Currently, for the whole board, I have already shared the overall evaluation which I shared on the board forums for over a week. Let’s return to that document first.

Could you and Kagoya sensei first go there and write comments, before you comment on the five projects? Matt has already commented there. Do not share the five documents with anyone else until all four of us have had a chance to comment, discuss, and Note that over the past month, I have already contacted several of the submitters by email asking questions, and those emails have always been cc-ed to you.
Later, on August 7th, after we have finished commenting and had an R&D meeting, I will make another announcement to the Board. Is that OK? So let me propose the following process for the R&D committee:
1. August 2-3. Comment on overall process document
2. August 4-5. Comment on five proposal documents
3. August 6. R&D committee meeting—is 7am Chicago time OK? That will be 9pm Japan time. Sorry if that time is bad for you, please suggest another time and I can arrange.
4. August 7. Announcement to the submitters of our evaluations—not on the Board forums, but directly to the submitters
5. August 10. Update to board members of our current status
