MAJ BEST INNOVATION / ベスト・イノベーション Go here: MAJ Best Innovation

Each year awards will be made for the best developments related to Moodle by members of MAJ. These might be the development of a new module or block, or even a suggested patch to the current code which adds greater functionality to a current version. The development itself need not be specific to Moodle as used in Japan.

MAJ MoodleNet (MAJNET) - BEST OPEN COURSEWARE / ベスト・オープンコースウェア  Go here: MAJ MoodleNet (MAJNET)

Submissions for the “Best Open Courseware Awards” are open now - until midnight February 22, 2026. To submit a course, there are 2 steps:
Step 1. Upload your course to MAJ's open courseware sharing site, called MAJNet. **Create an account if necessary.**
Step 2. Register your course for participation in the Best Open Courseware Awards here: https://moodlejapan.org/mod/data/view.php?id=3884

The purpose of the MAJ MoodleNet (MAJNET) is to collect and distribute free, open educational resources (OER) for any school or teacher using the Moodle learning management system. The MAJ MoodleNet (MAJNET) site is intended to focus on Japan-related educational resources, produced in Japanese, English and other languages.

Courseware that is suitable for submission to the Best Open Courseware Awards will meet one or more of the following conditions:

  • The course is taught in Japan, and would be useful for other teachers in Japan.
  • The courseware itself is free and has no commercial licenses or fees. Some free courseware may require purchasing a textbook separately.
  • The media in the course is public domain to the best of your knowledge, or you have permission to distribute freely.
  • The courseware is interesting, engaging, and innovative.
  • The courseware contains well-designed assessment systems.
  • The courseware is appropriate for the ages and levels of the students.

A courseware judging panel will start reviewing your courses after the submission deadline according to the criteria displayed in this scoring rubric.

Judges will decide the winners as follows: First prize, Second prize, Honorable Mention (x2).  A framed certificate with your name as the author, and a commemorative mug cup will be awarded at a ceremony held during the Moot.  You may upload as many courses as you wish, but one author can win only one prize per year.

While all courses uploaded to MAJNet are freely downloadable by registered users, the actual contents are not viewable unless the course is installed on the user’s own Moodle site. Winning courses in the Best Open Courseware Awards, however, will be displayed - to registered MAJ members ONLY - on the MAJ Showcase, allowing members to experience these award-winning courses for themselves as both teacher and student.

Anyone who contributes and uploads a course will receive an MAJ Moodle mug cup as a prize at the Moot. We are especially looking for courses in fields such as Math, Science, Computer skills, Music, Corporate training, and High school subjects.
